Final results, Part I

The work can be seen at AEAPD (Largo da Academia Nacional de Belas-Artes, Lisboa) until October the 5th.

Ana Fazendeiro and Catarina worked on a simple geometric modular typeface that was an interpretation of the geometric typefaces used in the time of ‘Estado Novo’. The typefaces of these particular period where influenced by the Bauhaus style but had some characteristic letters and typographic particularities that made them different or ‘Portuguese” in style. Ana would complet the character set of this typeface with thouse different letters for one of her graduation projects, can you already show us something?

Mónica Mendes worked on a modular typeface made with modules made out of the number 1 and 3. the idea was to use and resamble numbers as much as possible in the letters that form these typeface in order to change the meaning of the words and/or suggest different feelings and associations. I LOVE YOU, beeing different from 1 LOV3 YOU.

Daniel developed a modular typeface that would have 3 layers used in 3 different tints.

Q: I can’t move/paste/touch/anything my outline

A: You’re most probably in the wrong layer. From the Editing layers panel, select the appropriate layer (i. e. Outline or Mask or whatever.

Don’t worry, that happens to all of us, all the time.

Day two ended

September 19th, 2005

The afternoon of day two was an introduction to font editing. The learning curve is steep, and we’re happy everyone is keeping up so well. No time for blogging, we’re just running around answering questions.

Still deeper in to the forest

September 18th, 2005

The tree alphabet has been severely trimmed to act more like a typeface; quirkiness is easier to add than to remove.

Loads and loads of character(s)

September 18th, 2005

The font of Catarina and Ana (F) is shaping up: a whole upper and lower case alphabet is complete, and yet with many alternative solutions (=painful decisions).

Currently, they are also working on a more stretched (condensed) version of the whole thing.

Symbols to Letters!

September 18th, 2005

Hugo and Sofia are going a similar way like Monica and Inês: Their modules are based on non-alphabetic characters (half a parenthesis, a comma, and a hyphen):
